HJ Megahouse Brilliant Stage Azusa Nakano Figure Review

Just recieved her today, bought this exclusive lovely from Mandarake. Manufactured from MegaHouse’s Brilliant Stage line, she’s a Hobby Japan exclusive. Released in July, retail price of 7,140 yen. I got her for 7,000 yen, safe to say I waited the right time. If anyone knows me, Azusa is my favourite K-ON! character. It was a must get since Mandarake had lowered her price. I like Alter’s too, except for their pose, I was a bit disappointed by that. Although Alter’s version clearly has the better face, this one has a nice pose.

Opening the box, it’s easy to put her on the stand. Looking at her, I’m wondering if she’ll suffer from a leaning figure problem in the future. Because all her weight is put onto the one leg… But I love her lively ready to play pose. I also noticed they painted nail polish on her fingers, I know Azunyan never wears colour on her nails. Must of been some weird paint idea they had for display reasons.

I just about love her sculpt, to make a uniform figure look interesting can be hard. Though the guitar definitely helps, the guitar is amazingly detailed, even the strings feel like strings! Obviously are just plastic, but they made it soft. Paint job doesn’t seem to have any real noticeable flaws, naturally a few tiny specs here and there, pretty normal. Her fingernails are tad over the line, but can only tell when I took a picture of the hands.

Azunyan comes with her nekomimi just like Alter’s does. The easily fit on her, showing wear her nickname “Azunyan” came from.

The base features the K-ON! logo (Keion!) I like that it’s relatively plain. Her face does cause a bit of a problem, it’s not perfect. If her eyes were a bit bigger (height wise), they’re a very tiny bit too narrow. They kinda made her mouth funny, it looks fine on a 3/4 angle, but not frontal. Though I would say it still does look like Azunyan. I like how her eyes are painted.

The guitar is nicely done as I mentioned before. There’s a glitter paint finish, which shines in the light.

A surprise, bunny ears are included (yes I knew about it before purchase). I guess because cosplays on the K-ON! characters comes easy, and they wanted to include some interesting to combat Alter’s. Along with the cat and bunny ears, you get a guitar tuner to clip on.

Overall I love this figure, she looks much better in person. Somehow the camera brings out the weirdness in her face. For a K-ON! or Azusa fan this is a must get. But don’t buy from overpriced places, I think she’s still available on Mandarake if you wish to own her. I know K-ON! fans are veerrry picky on the figures, almost every one of the releases someone has a problem with something. While I’ll just say this, you can’t expect perfection from 2D to 3D object, there’s bound to be some asumptions. This figure is far from fail, in my opinion. It’s a shame Alter did do this kind of pose, it would of been perfect. But really, Azusa is too cute to pass up on!

K-ON!! Episode 20

Loved this episode so much, I decided to make a blog entry about it. Today is a big day for the girls, it’s the Hokago Tea Time School Festival Live event today. As Mio is still sleeping, the girls think it’s a good idea to draw on Mio’s hand. Mio wakes up to find her hand painted, immediately she hits Ritsu on the head.

The girls all get pumped up and cheer before leaving the clubroom. However Yui ruins the last cheer by cheering for cake, as everyone is left “ah!- huh..?”, only Mugi wasn’t confused.

They get changed into the HTT T-shirts Sawako-sensei gave, and quickly head down to the live stage. Rembering from last year’s School Festival, Mio is nervous. As Yui was late on arriving, and they had to buy time. This time they are all there and prepared.  When the curtains open up behind them, the girls are in shock to see everyone wearing the HTT T-shirts. Nadeko explains that it’s thanks to the Mio fanclub and Yamanaka-sensei who distributed them. As the live event continues easily Yui is the one who’s most nervous, making all sorts of errors in her speeches.

This episode was amazing, the girls performed perfectly. They had a huge crowd, probably the whole school. Every band member had their own group of screaming fans. Poor Mio got pressured into saying a few lines as Romeo, greatly praised afterwards. However Ritsu didn’t get away with nothing either, she had to go up in front and say some lines as Juliet. Yui made the mistake of saying “Sawa-chan” outloud, Mio reminded her it’s “Yamanaka-sensei”. But Sawa-chan was really happy to see them up there (and hoping she’ll get praised highly by them later).

They played 3 songs during the live, “Gohan wa Okazu”, “Fuwa Fuwa Time” (heard off camera), and “U&I”. The two new songs are a big hit in my views, Gohan wa Okazu is very catchy, even with the silly lyrics. Leave it up to Yui to make a song about food. U&I is a very sweet song, has a lot to do about friendship. The CD single for the two songs will be out September 8, 2010. Not too long from now, we’ll hear the full versions!

The Live for Hokago Tea Time was a huge success, everyone was in sync. The girls relax in the clubroom after some snacks. All of them very happy with how they performed and agreed it was their best live yet. As they talk about what they’re doing next, they realise their departure will be real soon. Tears in Yui’s and Ritsu’s eyes begin to swell up, Mugi pulls a tantrum, she definitely doesn’t want to depart. Soon the four of them start to cry, Azusa tries to comfort Mugi. At this point I found myself in tears aswell, it was very sad thinking they’re going to part ways. Yui wants a group hug, everyone embraces each other, they have a strong bond. With that, they all fall asleep resting upon each other.

Hogaku Tea Time forever! If you didn’t love this episode, then I wonder why you’re watching K-ON. The show is definitely more about the girls and their friendship rather than them being a band. This episode truly showed how the band gave them a strong bond, that is painful to depart. Sawako-sensei in the end barges in with Nadeko, she was hoping for praise, too bad they were all sound asleep. After watching this episode, I cannot wait for their new single to be released. Wouldn’t mind buying those T-shirts either, I saw them for sale on Japanese site.

Photoshoot: Taiga Aisaka

I decided to do a photoshoot of my Taiga Aisaka figures. Since I have higher a quality camera at the moment.I had set up an area and gathered all four. Mostly it was an experiment, Taiga makes a good subject. Being one of my favourite characters, the tsundere Aisaka-san is a figure collection must! Hope you enjoy the lot of 52 photos of them.

The four figures presented are:

Taiga Aisaka 1/8 by Max Factory & Taiga Aisaka 1/8 by Chara-Ani

Loot Update

A little update on some purchases I made, while a lot are left on my wishlist for now. First off the mailman came by today with a sweet package. Most adorable Nendoroid, Azusa Nakano! From Good Smile Company She makes my second Nendoroid to date, must say I feel she’s better quality than Nanoha. I got her from Otacute, took them a bit of time to have her in stock, but I finally got her.

Nendoroid 104 Nakano Azusa, is the youngest member of  Hokago Tea Time. She plays guitar, and since she appeared had taken away teasing from Mio. Often they will put nekomimi (cat ears) on Azusa, is where she gets her nickname; Azu-nyan. On to the Nendoroid, it’s pretty straight forward and comes with many accessories.

Her guitar, amp and strap.2 pairs of arms, 1 bent leg. Two facial expressions, a cat. Of course her nekomimi band and stand.

GSC did a really good job on the sculpt and paint job. You can move her twintails too easily. Exchanging the arms and faces are easy, though I haven’t quite figured out the leg yet, can never remove the whole leg, don’t want to break it.

I hope to get them all soon, for now I got my favourite Azusa. She’s totally adorable, makes you feel like going “Nyaaaan~”.

Azu-nyan and my cat, hehe, too bad the real cat is had to photograph at the right moment!

On-Order

Next up are my orders, while it’s not many as I wish, there are some quality items. First off, I ordered something I haven’t gotten in a while, I used to have a subscription. Megami vol.123 I ordered, along with Dengeki G’s August 2010, which comes with Tenshi/Kanade Petit Nendoroid. Both of those should be arriving soon, HLJ is doing some inventory, so orders are being processed slowly.

Megami hasn’t caught my attention for a while, but volume 123 did. Quite a few posters I can put up in my room for once, particularly the Black Rock Shooter one. Kanade and Yuri make for good friends, too bad they didn’t have enough time to let their friendship grow. Two posters I really wish to own, though there are some others that are nice. There’s a cute Feito-chan one and a cool HOTD poster aswell. See more here on moe.imouto.org.

Moving onto more Angel Beats! goodies. GSC Nendoroid Petit set 01, as I previously posted here. These are quite inexpensive, and their smaller than the standard nendoroid of course. Since I enjoyed the series so much, I decided to order them. Two sets are already decided, but only the first set is out on preorder. You can see my whole blog post on these sweeties.

Black Rock Shooter and Luka figma, while they were ordered at different times. BRS is coming out soon, and I can’t wait to have her, she really looks amazing quality, especially for a figma. I ordered Luka because I missed out on Miku’s first release, and she’s hard to get now. But I will order her soon, so Luka won’t be alone. BRS is a simple must get, I got GSC’s original version, big fan of her design.

Lastly, my most expensive order, but a must-have for me. Aisaka Taiga China Dress ver. by Wave, Dengeki Hobby exclusive.

I’m aware of my Taiga obsession when it comes to figure collecting, but I have standards. Only get the ones I think look good, and this one looks to be the first anime art based figure to date. Of course, exclusive! That word can anger any figure collector… I gave in and ordered the last one from Nihonju, I got my Shantiti and Ne-jyu from them… So I can trust them to order another exclusive. While I had to pay the complete price + shipping on the spot… I hope she is worth it! She certainly looks it.

Review: Fate Testarossa Figma School Uniform Ver.

Long time since I posted, sorry for the lack of updates, I am alive! Unfortunately my figure collecting hobby is on a hault for now. Though I decided on keeping Fate Testarossa School Uniform version by Max Factory on my orders list. The price was cheap enough anyway, and shipping it with SAL, I had received her in about two weeks from Otacute. Many thanks to them for the great packaging and fast service. Onto this lovely figure now.

I must say, I’m so happy I decided to collect the figma, instead of the nendoroid of Fate with my money limits… It was a fantastic choice. Max Factory needs a pat on the back, they truly upgraded their figma line from the last ones I got… Newest ones were probably the other Nanoha ones, I have some kinda old Figmas now I think of it. Anyhow, changing the hands are so easy now, there’s no ball joint at the end of the hand, so it doesn’t break. It comes out and goes in with ease! I was afraid to change her hands because of past experiences, I’ve broken the hands into the figma, and had to remove it making a mess.

Fate herself is well crafted and painted, I haven’t seen any real blotchy mistakes on the paint job. She has two faces, one normal kinda content expression, and a closed eyes one. Both are very cute, and look like her. For those who don’t like the faces the other Fate has, this one is perfect. She also comes with two interchangeable ribbons, pink and black. They are simple to change by removing her twin tails, you insert them in the designated holes. The idea itself is wonderful, however her twin tails easily fall off. Fate also has 9 interchangeable hands, one has her Bardiche on it. Aruf and her school bag included aswell. Though Aruf is solid and doesn’t move, it’s not jointed like the Nendoroid version. I guess not a biggy, but still.

Fate is a charming and cute figma, any fan of her or the series will want to add to their collection. While Max Factory has done a good job on the joints, the twin tails being loose and easily falling can be annoying. Also I was not too keen on her skirt part of the uniform being completely solid, her movements are really limited, but I guess it’s hard to adapt such a clothing into an “action” figure. I would say they captivated Fate’s personality and appearance well with this figure. Now for Nanoha and the other Fate figma…. MUST GET! …. *sigh*

Oh yes and lastly!

NYAAA~  *needs cat ears* D:
